Homeowners often wonder whether a repair project requires a licensed contractor (vs) or whether a handyman can complete the work.

Handymen typically perform smaller repair and maintenance tasks such as drywall repair, fixture installation, caulking, furniture assembly, and minor plumbing repairs.

Contractors are usually required for larger projects that involve structural work, major renovations, or specialized building permits.

An interesting side note specific to Minnesota, the Department of Labor does require handy-persons to acquire a "Remodelers Contractor License IF they make more than about $15/year. Be sure to check your handy-person has that license or is in the process of getting it.

Hiring a handyman can often be more cost-effective for small projects that do not require extensive construction or permits.

For homeowners who need help with multiple small tasks around the house, a handyman can be a convenient and affordable solution.

Minnetonka Home Services provides a wide range of home maintenance and repair services designed to help homeowners keep their properties in excellent condition.
